Introducing Immich, an image self-hosting app

What is Immich?

Immich GitHub Unlimited upload of mobile photos on Google Photos ended on June 1, 2021.

As a result, alternatives such as NextCloud and Synology Photo were sought, but they were far inferior to Google Photos.

The app that will quench this thirst is Immich.

The purpose of Immich is simple.

Like Google Photos, it is to bring in as many features as possible from Google Photos by allowing users to host them themselves.

It is open source and free to use.

Of course, users need some basic knowledge of Docker, networks, etc.

Immich features

  • Powerful upload function of Google Photos

  • Classify photos with its own machine learning function

  • Very fast access from mobile apps and the web

Looking at the features, it seems that they are trying to bring in many of the features of Google Photos.

In fact, it is an open source project that is still being developed steadily.

This is also evaluated as a disadvantage, as users must regularly maintain it through version upgrades.

Reason for looking into it

Up until now, after the free upload of Google Photos ended, I used NextCloud to back up photos, but it was very inconvenient.

In the case of basic upload photos, photos were missing, and videos were uploaded as singles, so to upload photos,

I had to keep my phone on to minimize missing photos.

The speed was also very slow. No matter what I did, even the speed of the basic web page was too slow, so I looked for an alternative and found Immich.

I will install it myself later and test it, and I will also upload the installation method.
